Whether they were born here, moved here, or still live here to this day, there are few notable locals that you may recognize from the big screen or front page.
Below we have outlined some of the most popular Edmonton, AB celebrities in order of popularity.

Michael J Fox
Hey Doc, time to fire up The DeLorean and head back to the year 1961, when famed actor Michael J Fox was born on June 9th in Edmonton, Alberta. Most known for his role in the cult-classic, Back to the Future, Michael J Fox is an internationally renowned actor, author, and producer.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Fox has spoken out on multiple occasions about his Canadian pride. Since living in the city, Fox has gone on to win five Emmy Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and he has been inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame.

Tommy Chong
Moving from the big screen to the one in your living room, Tommy Chong is another popular actor born in Edmonton, Alberta. Most known for his role in That ‘70s Show, and his advocacy for cannabis rights, Chong was born at the University of Alberta Hospital on May 24th, 1938. Chong moved from Edmonton to Calgary in his teens, and later to Vancouver. Today, he is well-recognized from his comedic role in Cheech & Chong.

Ruth B (Ruth Berhe)
Just 22 years old, this talented Edmontonian has already made a name for herself in the music scene, signing with Columbia Records in 2015. Her breakout hit “Lost Boy” topped pop charts around the globe, earning her the title of Breakout Artist of the Year during the 2017 Juno Awards. Berhe first gained fame in 2013 by posting videos on the streaming service, Vine. During that time, she graduated from Ross Sheppard High School and began attending MacEwan University, but later took a break in order to focus on her music.

Nathan Fillion
If you grew up in Edmonton in the 70s and 80s, there is a chance you crossed paths with Canadian-American actor, Nathan Fillion. Born in Edmonton on March 27th, 1971, Fillion went to Holy Trinity Catholic High School and then continued his studies at Concordia University College of Alberta and the University of Alberta. Today, Fillion is a naturalized US citizen, but his older brother, Jeff Fillion, remains in the city and is the principal of the Father Michael Troy Elementary/Junior High School in Edmonton. Since leaving Alberta, Nathan Fillion has gone on to star as Richard Castle in the ABC series Castle.

Jill Hennessy
Clack that gavel because the verdict is in—Jill Hennessy is another famous actress born in Edmonton, AB. Most known for her role as the prosecutor Claire Kincaid in the NBC hit, Law and Order, Hennessy was born on November 25th, 1968 in Edmonton. In addition to Law & Order, Hennessy also played roles in RoboCop 3 and Most Wanted, and appeared on Broadway in the musical Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story.
