Edmonton is a city in the province of Alberta in Canada. It’s one of the more northern cities in the country and is the most northern city of the six big cities in Canada. The coldness associated with the city may make you think that it’s gloomy and not that great of a place to live, but there are actually many reasons to live in the city of Edmonton, AB.

The Gateway to the North Is More Affordable

Canada has quite a high price of living but Alberta’s capital is a city within Canada that is more affordable. You’ll find a home much cheaper than any of the other major Canadian cities including Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary.

Another benefit of living in Alberta is that getting gas to provide heat to your home is cheaper. Alberta is rich in natural resources, meaning you’ll be able to find affordable gas to fill up your car.

Alberta also offers a health care insurance plan that covers all your basic health needs. The province is also known to have lower taxes when compared to other parts of the country.

The Big E Is a Hub for Diversity

The city gets bigger each year, and its growth attracts people from all over the world. The government in Edmonton ensure inclusion and diversity through an active mandate. The city has pride in its representation of diversity. The active mandate makes it a requirement for the workforce to get a representative to stand up for the community. The representatives allow the city to attract potential workers and ensure they stay in the city. The city of Edmonton is very welcoming and has programs in place to help newcomers become accustomed to the city.

Abundant Recreational Activities

Life in Edmonton provides all types of activities, sports, and recreation. The city has beautiful nature to explore in its green spaces and parks. Residents of the city can find things to do in the Edmonton River Valley, which happens to be an urban park and the largest one in Canada—it is humongous in comparison to New York’s Central Park.  Throughout the park, residents can find biking and hiking trails, golf courses, and a lake. The city is also a short way away from a couple of the most popular and beautiful national parks in Canada: Jasper and Banff.

Edmonton, AB is also widely known for its festivals. Some of the most notable events held in the Festival City include a local folk festival, an international street performers festival, K-Days, and an International Fringe Festival.

The City of Champions also has a lot of sports teams to root for, most notably the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers.
